Preparing for 6th Grade

Taylor PTA welcomes parents and incoming 6th graders for the 2024–2025 school year.

Additional Information

Individual teachers hand out list for classroom supplies during the first week of school. However, if you want to get started prior to that time, pens, paper, pencils, etc. are always needed at school. Students will have some time to get supplies for classes.

Taylor breakfast and lunches are no cost to all students and no application needed.

Primary pick-up and drop-off zone is the parking lot on Taylor Blvd. near the intersection of Minorca Wy., Camino Alto, and Taylor Blvd. Backup pick-up and drop-off zones are:

• Shea Center’s traffic circle at end of Minorca Wy.

• white zone on Taylor Blvd. in front of school (U-turn and three-point turns not legal here)

• District Office’s parking lot off Richmond Dr.

The Community/Recreation Center is not a pick-up nor drop-off zone.

Roadmap for Next Year

Incoming 6th graders took these steps to reach their first day of school on August 14, 2024:

1. already passed Attend Taylor Info Night: March 26, 2024, 5:30 PM–6:30 PM, Taylor auditorium.
   Taylor Info Night will inform parents on the optional Summer Bridge Program and what to expect in 6th grade. Principal Zlatunich presented this slide show during the event.

2. already pased Attend Taylor Open House May 9, 2024, 6 PM. Visit classrooms and talk to teachers. Visit the auditorium to hear the orchestra play from 6 PM–6:30 PM and band play from 6:30 PM–7 PM.

3. Pick an elective. Elective is randomly assigned, except for students who pick a music elective.

4. Optionally attend Taylor Summer School Bridge Program:
   June 24–July 12, 2024, 8:35 AM–12:33 PM. No school on July 4, 2024.

Incoming 6th graders will get to experience three weeks of life as a middle school student and learn the campus in the safety of other incoming 6th graders.

Students are expected to attend each day of the Summer Bridge Program or will be dropped at the second absence.

5. Thursday, August 8, 2024, 10 AM–12 PM: attend Welcome Day and buy a PE uniform.
   10 AM: 6th graders check-in on the front lawn and gather into student-led tours
   10:15 AM: parents buy student PE uniform in gym and visit club tables
   10:45 AM:  parents enjoy coffee and cookies
   11:15 AM: 6th graders get their ice cream
   11:45 AM: beach ball competition between the various 6th-grade groups

6. First day of Taylor is August 14, 2024, 8:35 AM–12:18 PM and your student will receive their schedule at the front of school before 8:35 AM. Millbrae elementary schools end a little later at 12:30 PM.
